Rosco Aperture Patterns are a series of carefully graded circular holes that allow the lighting designer or electrician to simulate the effect of an Iris unit with most ellipsoidal reflector spotlights.
They have been designed exclusively for Rosco by Robert Davis, a theatre consultant who has made a specialty of solving problems for other lighting designers.
With Rosco Aperture Gobos the diameter of the beam of light can be "fine tuned" to cover performers or scenic pieces when Iris units are unavailable.
They can also be used to create perspective effects. Pools of light that diminish as they run upstage can be projected using smaller and smaller aperture patterns, thus reproducing the light of street lamps.
Rosco Aperture Gobos are handy accessories when touring. A set of four adds flexibility to a fixed inventory of instruments and should be part of every technician's "bag of tricks".
